Georgetown University Addresses Inflammatory Posters Related to Charlie Kirk

Georgetown University has taken action against a new wave of controversial posters that mocked the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. These posters have been reported to the FBI.

One of the posters highlighted Kirk’s image along with crude phrases, including “follow your leader” and “rest at P-SS Charlie.” This was first revealed through various media channels.

The posters emerged Thursday evening at Central Red Square, which is known as the university’s main area for free speech. They included QR codes and branding from the Georgetown John Brown Club, a group associated with leftist activism and previous violence.

A representative from Georgetown stated, “The university has no tolerance for violence or threats against the institution.”

A conservative organization on campus has raised concerns about the implications of these posters. Shay McInnis, treasurer of the Georgetown University Republicans, expressed surprise at their reappearance, stating that it makes students feel as if they’re being targeted by those who disrespect the university environment.

McInnis also mentioned that conservative students are now questioning the safety of attending campus events. “Should I even go to this event? Is it still safe?” he pondered, though he remains determined not to let fear silence their activities.

In response to the posters, the university’s administration is closely monitoring social media activity, particularly posts from staff that appear to support Kirk’s assassination.

U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon recently condemned the posters, asserting that verbal violence on campuses should be rebuked by institutional authorities.

The initial batch of posters was unveiled Wednesday, using the provocative tagline “Hey fascist! Catch!” This phrase was infamously associated with the taunting remarks made at Kirk’s actual assassination. The flyers referenced the John Brown Club, noted for its leftist stance, and suggested celebrating deaths of political figures they oppose.

McInnis described the distribution of the posters as worsening from prior displays that were hidden in less prominent spots on campus. “[Wednesday] there were fewer posters in more obscure locations, but now they have moved to the central area where free speech is typically upheld,” he stated.

He also shared concerns about the chilling effect such rhetoric has on free expression, asking how students can voice their opinions freely when faced with threats against their safety.

McInnis believes there should be swift action against those responsible for the posters: “The university must identify and expel all involved students immediately. If they don’t act, I urge federal authorities to step in,” he said, calling for protections for conservative students.
