Columbia, Missouri (Kmiz)
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield customers will not pay in-network fees at the University of Missouri Healthcare Clinic and Hospital starting April 1st using the Medicare Advantage Plan.
The insurance giant, which has around 2 million members in Missouri, has failed to reach a deal to cover those plans within the network after negotiations, MU Health said in a news release Tuesday. Negotiations with MU Health about other national anthems plans continue, according to the release. These negotiations include the Affordable Care Act Marketplace Plan and Health Link Plan.
Mu Health said in December it was negotiating with Anthem, the state's largest health insurance provider.
MU Health will set up a call centre available at 573-650-5409 and will be open Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm to ask questions about the changes.
MU Health Care serves patients in all 114 Missouri Counties. It is also the only academic healthcare system in central Missouri, including a Level 1 Trauma Center and Children's Hospital. MU Health Care is one of two hospitals in the state that provides health care to patients regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.
Anthem said in December that MU Health Care wanted to raise prices.
According to the current list of contract negotiations, the national anthem is often negotiated with suppliers. Most contracts are renegotiated before they expire, and providers continue to operate on Anthem's network, but in some circumstances it may result in providers being stopped from joining one or more networks.
Jefferson City Medical Group and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield reached a contract agreement in November 2023.
