Anthony Joshua drops Francis Ngannou three times in savage two-round destruction | Boxing

Anthony Joshua delivered a devastating knockout of Francis Ngannou in the second round of their crossover fight in Riyadh. Two minutes into the opening round, Joshua landed a chilling straight right that sent Ngannou crashing to the canvas. It was a terrible shock, but Ngannou wisely bided his time and was able to stand up and avoid further disaster before the bell was evacuated. But early Saturday morning, Joshua relented.

With 50 seconds left in the second round, Ngannou was caught with a big right followed by a sizing left. He fell to the canvas, and while the referee was taking a count, he appeared extremely dazed. Ngannou picked himself up and slowly walked toward the center of his ring. Joshua caught him with a monster overhand right that froze Ngannou.

It was a horrific knockout, and Ngannou was clearly unconscious as doctors rushed to the ring to treat the injured fighter. There was a sense of relief when Ngannou, who briefly recovered in the corner, eventually walked over and was comforted by the restrained Joshua.

These dizzying moments felt like brutal order had returned to the chaotic world of heavyweight boxing after former two-time world champion Joshua’s decisive victory. Renowned mixed martial arts heavyweight champion Ngannou had lost his only previous professional boxing match when he terrorized Tyson Fury last October, but was thoroughly exposed by a motivated Joshua. Ta.

The shock of Ngannou’s boxing debut, dropping Fury before losing by split decision, was unlikely to be repeated as Joshua entered the ring with true intent and purpose. Joshua’s career seems to be in jeopardy every time he steps into the ring. After losing three times, he is worried if he loses again. He also knew that a loss to Ngannou would be disastrous given the UFC fighter’s lack of boxing experience.

Ngannou is strong, brave, and has considerable power, as he proved against Fury. But his limitations in the boxing ring were laid bare by Olympic champion Joshua, who slipped between the ropes at the age of 31.cent professional fight. Joshua would like to face Fury next, especially if his British rival defeats Oleksandr Usyk in May to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. However, Fury and Usyk have two-fight deals, so Joshua will have to wait a little longer.

However, the political climate of boxing could give Joshua a chance at a world title of his own. The IBF sanctioning body now insists that the winner of the Fury vs. Usyk showdown must first defend the title against mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic. With neither Fury nor Usyk willing to accept those terms, Hrgovic and Joshua will likely face off for the vacant IBF belt in a familiar feud.

Joshua appeared to have changed after losing his second straight fight to Usyk, and his performance caused Fury to look pensive at ringside. It may have been a predictable victory, but the contrast with Fury’s disastrous performance against Ngannou means Joshua’s new world title ambitions are back on track.

In the main qualifying match, Joseph Parker continued his impressive run by outscoring Zhilei Zhang over 12 rounds. Parker, who won all four fights with a dominant victory over Deontay Wilder last year, was knocked down twice in the third and eighth rounds, and was knocked down by Zhang with a straight left and a right chop. I had to get over it. Even though Parker cut the bridge of his nose and was bleeding, he calmly fought back and caught Chan with blows to his head and body.

The imposing Chinese heavyweight became noticeably fatigued as the rounds progressed, and Parker continued to box intelligently. His smart fighting style saw the New Zealander decisively win the final four rounds, giving him a well-deserved victory full of grit and intrigue. Chan has insisted on having a rematch clause in his contract, and they are likely to have a rematch later this year. However, Parker has grown in confidence after receiving expert guidance from trainer Andy Lee and would welcome a rematch.

Joshua produced an unforgettable finish to a never-ending night. The hesitant and seemingly gun-shy character, traumatized by past defeats, has been replaced. Joshua appears to be replenished and empowered by new cheerful powers. He now needs to prove he can display such ferocity against a far more skilled and experienced champion than boxing novice Francis Ngannou.
