Anthony Joshua Injured in Car Crash in Nigeria
Boxing champion Anthony Joshua was injured in a car accident on Monday in Nigeria, according to officials. He reportedly was in the back seat of a vehicle traveling on the Ogun-Lagos Expressway when the incident occurred, resulting in the fatalities of two others. Authorities mentioned that Joshua sustained only minor injuries and is “okay.”
An eyewitness described the situation, noting that Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him. A passenger was also present next to the driver in the vehicle, which was involved in the accident. The witness mentioned that Joshua’s safety measures included being in a following vehicle before this crash.
According to Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunwalo, a tire on Joshua’s car “burst,” causing it to crash into an idling truck parked at the roadside.
Joshua, whose parents are of Nigerian descent, spent part of his childhood in Nigeria before returning to the UK after his parents’ separation. Earlier this month, he participated in a match against Jake Paul, where he secured a knockout victory, bringing his professional record to 29 wins. He has held multiple heavyweight titles, including the WBA super heavyweight title, IBF heavyweight title, and WBO heavyweight title, though he lost the title to Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021.
As of now, it’s uncertain when Joshua will step back into the ring.
