Anthony Richardson, Colts hang on for gritty win over Patriots

The Indianapolis Colts have struggled this season, but their playoff hopes remain.

Anthony Richardson led the Colts on a 19-play, 80-yard drive that lasted more than five minutes, scoring a touchdown on a 3-yard pass to Alec Pierce with 12 seconds left. Instead of kicking the tying goal, the Colts decided to attempt a two-point try.

Richardson poured the ball in, giving Indianapolis a 25-24 lead.

Drake Maye started attacking down the field in those 12 seconds, setting up Joey Slye's 68-yard field goal attempt. If Sly had hit it, it would have been a record. He was about two yards short.

Indianapolis won 25-24, improving to 6-7 on the season.

Richardson completed 12 of 24 for 109 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and two interceptions. He ran for 58 yards on nine carries. The second-year quarterback found Jonathan Taylor for a score early in the game. Taylor ran for 96 yards on 25 carries. The only catch was a touchdown.

The Patriots took the lead when Antonio Gibson scored on an 11-yard run with 8:43 left in the game. New England led by seven points at that point, but was unable to keep Indy out of the end zone.

Maye had a touchdown pass to Austin Hooper in the second quarter. He completed 24-of-30 for 238 passing yards and one interception. Gibson gained 62 yards on the ground. Hunter Henry led New England with seven catches for 75 yards. Hooper had four catches for 42 yards.

New England fell to 3-10 at the end of the season.
