Anthony Richardson looks for a new beginning as the Indianapolis Colts permit a trade.

Anthony Richardson Sr.’s situation in Indianapolis is more uncertain than ever. The Indianapolis Colts have reportedly allowed Richardson to explore trade options following their No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This news was confirmed by his agent, Dayrick Jackson, who spoke to ESPN about the quarterback’s turbulent career.

During the preseason, veteran quarterback Daniel Jones earned the starting role over Richardson. Jones capitalized on this chance, leading the Colts to win eight of their first ten games in the 2025 season. However, Richardson faced significant setbacks, notably an Achilles tendon injury—this issue arose just two years after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament while with the New York Giants. Now, it seems the Colts are prepared to continue with Jones, leaving Richardson’s role in doubt.

Jones is set to become a free agent in March, creating a crucial decision for the Colts. They might need to franchise tag him or offer a new contract. In the meantime, Richardson’s playing time has been limited, having started only 15 games across three seasons, mostly due to injuries. For instance, shoulder surgery prevented him from playing four games during his rookie year, and he was also sidelined for a similar duration in 2024.

The previous season, Richardson suffered a peculiar injury during warmups and was placed on injured reserve after just attempting two passes in two games. He currently has a career total of 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Colts general manager Chris Ballard mentioned that Richardson’s vision issues related to a fractured orbit last October are showing improvement, confirming that Richardson has been cleared to play.

Looking ahead, Riley Leonard, a sixth-round pick from the 2025 NFL Draft, is expected to stay with the Colts next season. When asked about Richardson’s future with the team, Ballard stated, “I still believe in Anthony.”
