Clashes Erupt at Anti-Israel Protest in Manhattan
Late Tuesday, a large group of anti-Israel demonstrators, many clad in keffiyeh, took to the streets near a historic synagogue in Manhattan, clashing with police while chanting, “Israel should not exist.”
Approximately 100 protesters gathered near Park East Synagogue, where an event focused on Israeli and West Bank real estate was taking place. They shouted slogans like “Palestine will never die” and “Stop selling stolen land,” as captured in some alarming footage.
Despite police barricades set up around the synagogue on East 6th Street, videos revealed the chaotic scene with demonstrators attempting to break through barriers and engage with law enforcement.
Officers shouted, “stand back,” as they pushed the crowd onto the sidewalk. Nearby, the protesters continued rallying, creating a tense atmosphere, as seen in the footage.
“Honestly, they’re just a bunch of brainwashed idiots,” remarked Karen Richt-Brown, a co-sponsor with the Zionist organization Helt New York City, referring to the pro-Palestinian activists.
“Israel doesn’t occupy anything. It’s simply the homeland of the Jewish people. This rhetoric is entirely about anti-Zionism, anti-Semitism, and Jew-hatred,” she added.
The protest, which began at 7 p.m., was organized by the anti-Israel group Pal Awda New York/New Jersey, who pushed messages like “No settlers on stolen land” and “Stop the sale of stolen Palestinian land.”
Meanwhile, a similar anti-Israel demonstration unfolded at Hunter College, where around 200 individuals marched and held placards that read, “Labeling people with anti-Semitism does not justify occupation and brutality,” and “Stop the sale of Palestinian land.”
Interestingly, police reported no arrests during these events, characterizing the protests as “orderly” and “peaceful.”
