Protesters occupied a Columbia University building early Tuesday morning as anti-Israel behavior at the school continued to escalate, according to multiple reports and footage of the event.
The occupation followed a notice from the Ivy League school promising suspensions for students who ignored a Monday deadline of 2 p.m. to leave the campground. At least one protester broke a window in the building and barricaded himself inside Hamilton Hall. according to To the Columbia Spectator.
Protesters entered the building around 12:30 a.m.
“We salute all the martyrs, all the parents, mothers and fathers,” the demonstrators shouted. “We honor all our martyrs, all our children, sons and daughters.”

Protesters said they would occupy Hamilton Hall until “Columbia meets all our demands,” according to the Columbia Spectator.
Video footage showed protesters unfurling Palestinian flags from the building’s windows. Some chanted, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and “Palestine will live forever.”

Protesters called on Columbia to grant amnesty to demonstrators, end financial ties to companies with ties to Israel, and be transparent about other investments by Ivy League schools. demanded.
