Anti-Israel protesters vandalized the Columbus monument in Washington DC on Wednesday in reaction to a visit by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu spoke in parliament as protesters burned an American flag and scrawled graffiti on monuments including the Liberty Bell.

The U.S. Park Police said in a statement that it had revoked a permit for the gathering at Columbus Circle, the area surrounding Union Station, and that the crowd had been ordered to leave the area.
“The crowd at Columbus Circle was engaging in criminal activity and was engaged in a standoff with police on scene,” authorities said.

Protesters outside Union Station clashed with U.S. Park Police who tried to stop them from removing and burning the American flag.
As police fired tear gas, some protesters were seen pulling down the American flag and replacing it with the Palestinian flag.
Activists were also seen vandalizing the Columbus Memorial Fountain and the nearby DC Liberty Bell with spray paint.

Several lawmakers boycotted or casually heckled Netanyahu’s speech on Wednesday, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) who was seen holding a sign that read “war criminal.”
