Hundreds of anti-Israel demonstrators occupied the Manhattan Bridge on Saturday night, blowing away police who initially tried to set up barricades blocking their path.
Demonstrators blocked vehicles on the upper level of the bridge. traffic jam, according to Images posted on X.
Demonstrators initially gathered near the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, then headed northwest across the bridge into Manhattan.according to reports.
We linked arms and marched slowly across the span, chanting:We don’t want your shitty wars.Meanwhile, officers gathered on the Manhattan side and eventually joined up with the group in an effort to round them up, according to one X’s post.
Some demonstrators and journalists covering the demonstrations were also detained.
The NYPD could not immediately confirm the number of arrests.
The anti-Israel rally was the latest to roil New York City since the Israeli-Hamas war began in October.
