Anti-Trump DA’s no-show at debate leaves challenger facing off against empty podium

Political opponents of Democratic Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis debated at an empty podium after Willis was absent from the county’s first Democratic debate, according to local reports.

Willis is the Georgia district attorney who brought the election reasoning case against former President Trump, indicting him and 18 co-defendants on racketeering charges for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election. Willis was accused of having an “inappropriate” relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she hired, and she became embroiled in controversy.

A judge last month ordered Willis to either remove him from the case or fire Wade, who ultimately resigned.

The Fulton County Democratic Party held its first primary debate on Sunday, but Willis was absent, leaving his political opponent on stage alone and criticizing fellow Democrats for hiring their girlfriends to litigate high-level cases.
