Antonio Brown Released from Jail Following Attempted Murder Charges
Antonio Brown, the former NFL player, was released from Miami-Dade County Jail on Thursday after a bond was granted for charges related to attempted murder.
The 37-year-old had his bail set at $25,000 and was placed under house arrest, wearing an ankle monitor as of Wednesday. Upon his release, he shared a heartfelt hug with his attorney, Mark Eiglash, before heading to a food truck outside the jail where he expressed gratitude, saying, “God is great.”
Brown has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder charges stemming from a shooting incident in May. According to an arrest warrant, he allegedly took a handgun from a security guard and fired two shots at a man with whom he had previously clashed.
During the bail hearing, Eiglash argued that the shots fired came from Brown’s own concealed weapon and were not directed at the alleged victim, identified as Zulu Karnain Kwame Nantambu.
Nantambu initially told investigators he thought he may have been grazed by a bullet, but prosecutors indicated to the judge that they had doubts about whether he was actually shot.
Prosecutors requested pretrial detention, highlighting Brown’s background as a successful NFL player with the means to flee, but the judge denied that request. It’s reported that throughout his career, Brown earned over $80 million.
Brown spent 12 seasons in the NFL, earning seven Pro Bowl selections and four All-Pro honors. He played a crucial role in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Super Bowl win in 2020. Over his career, he completed 928 passes for 12,291 yards and scored 83 touchdowns.
