Anyone who loves pizza should be rooting for a doink in the Super Bowl

There’s still a week until the Super Bowl, but at least you’ve probably started planning what you’re going to eat.

You’ll have the option of wings or nachos to start with, and maybe someone’s famous dip, but eventually you’ll have the main course so to speak.

Maybe you’ll be as bold as me and make brisket (note), but maybe you’ll opt for the timeless classic: pizza pie.

Pizza makes sense for soccer, and by extension, soccer. big game. There are many options for pizza depending on price, but would you be interested in free pizza?

Yes, I said it’s free. If a kicker makes a successful kick in the Super Bowl, he or she will earn a free pizza from DiGiorno. We should all be rooting for Doinks.

But how do we know that? I’m so glad you asked. My good friends Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen said this when we spoke on video. Blog The Boys YouTube Channel. You can also hear our conversation on the Friday edition of . SB Nation NFL Show.

I know it seems like a stretch for me to call KB and Greg “good friends,” but as a Dallas Cowboys fan, I know them well.Burkhardt, Olsen, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi did a great job. 9 Dallas Cowboys games during the 2023 season.

Some of the more memorable moments this crew produced included a kicker actually missing a field goal, which bodes well for pizza purposes. In case you didn’t know, Cowboys rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey literally didn’t miss a field goal through the first 16 games of the regular season. When they were tied at 1 on the road against Washington in Week 18… Burkhardt brought it up, Olsen joked about the announcer jinx, and Aubrey had his kick blocked. boom.

Amazingly, Aubrey kept missing his next kick throughout the game before settling the waters with a kick, but his goal for a perfect season was already over by that point. Thankfully, Aubrey is still going to be the top kicker for the foreseeable future, but the whole sequence was really great, so I naturally told them that.

What makes the situation even more interesting in hindsight is the added context of what the FOX crew discussed the night before. Burkhardt and Olsen spoke together during our conversation.

Hopefully Kevin Burkhardt will throw everything he can at the kicker so we all get free pizza during the Super Bowl. Learn more about the promotion here.

Thanks to Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen, and DiGiorno.
