A poll conducted by a pro-Palestinian organization reveals that a significant number of Democratic voters in New York City support the pro-Palestinian stance of mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani.
“The dam has broken. Zoran Mamdani’s ability to mobilize new voters with a strong platform advocating for Palestinian rights should serve as a wake-up call,” a statement noted.
According to the poll, 63% of crucial voters believe that New York should “issue an arrest warrant” for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The findings also show that 68% of primary voters have a favorable view of Mamdani, and 75% of them view Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) positively.
Further, Semafor outlines:
These respondents were less impressed with local Congressional leaders who do not support Mamdani. Fifty-eight percent held a favorable opinion of House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, while only half felt similarly about Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer.
The upcoming mayoral race may influence these sentiments. A significant 57% of New York Democrats indicated they would be less inclined to support Congressional candidates who do not back Mamdani for mayor in the coming year. Meanwhile, 72% supported candidates who voted to “withhold our weapons in Israel.”
“Supporting the military actions against Israel, acknowledging the Israeli attacks in Gaza, and holding Israel accountable for legal violations reflects not just a personal view but the majority opinion among Democratic voters,” Dereus expressed.
She further mentioned that [the American Israel Public Affairs Committee] is genuinely at risk of losing touch with its own constituency.
“All AIPAC-backed Democrats successfully won in the recent major cycle, while prominent anti-Israel Democrats faced defeats,” said Marshall Whittman, a spokesperson for AIPAC. “Over 95% of AIPAC-supported candidates were victorious in November. Being pro-Israel aligns with sound policy and effective politics.”
