Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) took to Instagram Wednesday to blame Vice President Kamala Harris' election loss on “sexism and racism.”
In an evening livestream obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, members of the “Squad” discussed how much pressure Harris was under to “rescue the country from a huge fascist threat” in just a few months on the campaign trail. He also emphasized that he was exposed.
“I also think it's important to mention here that Kamala Harris was given a mission that no other person in American history has been given. She did it without any expectations. The task is to build a presidential campaign in 90 to 100 days.” “We have to save this country from a huge fascist threat that has been campaigning and pumping for eight years already,” Ocasio-Cortez said on Instagram Live.
She then shifted the blame to the fact that Harris is a woman and a minority, saying she has also faced racist and sexist backlash.
Misogyny is very real in this country. As a well-known woman of color in public office myself, I knew that sexism and racism were real, but once I was on the national stage, For the first time, I was actually shocked at how bad it was. You know, people grow up with it, but when you're on the receiving line or you're exposed to millions of eyeballs at once nationally, you feel the fire hose and you really understand how deeply ingrained it is. There's something.
And it's not partisan, it's beyond politics. And that's a tough pill to swallow for many. That misogyny can exist in the left space, the right space, and the center space.
She also claimed that if Harris were a man, “we might have a different outcome today.”
Former Barack Obama adviser and CNN contributor David Axelrod expressed similar sentiments after the election. panel on the network.
“This campaign has an appeal to racism, there is racial bias in this country, there is sexism in this country, and I think that has no bearing on the outcome of this election. People are wrong,” he argued. .
Axelrod added that while President-elect Donald Trump's victory was biased, his campaign was better than Harris's.
“Honestly, I think they ran his campaign strategically,” the commentator explained. “As I said many times, they ran a very smart campaign.”
Fox News analyst Juan Williams also said male voters rejected Harris because of her race and gender.
“I don't buy into the idea of, 'Oh, it's because of the price of eggs.' I'm worried that, 'I'm not going to vote for this woman,' or 'I'm not going to vote for this black woman,'” he said. He spoke during a post-election panel discussion.
Ocasio-Cortez's sentiments have been echoed on social media since Harris lost to the former president.
majority report Co-host Emma Vigeland wrote on X that a “large part” of the vice president's loss was due to the Trump campaign's “misogyny.”
washington post Contributor and former ESPN sportswriter Mike Wise said racism, misogyny, sexism, xenophobia and “global warming have won.”
