AOC Calls For NYC Mayor Adams To Resign ‘For The Good Of The City’ Amid Federal Probes

Squad member and New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called on New York City Mayor Eric Adams to resign amid a federal investigation into the mayor's administration.

On Wednesday, the eccentric council member said Adams (Dynamo, N.Y.) should resign “for the good of the city.” “I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue to govern New York City. The proliferation of resignations and vacancies threatens to undermine the functioning of city government. Constant investigations will make it impossible to hire and retain competent officials,” she wrote to X.

September 4thNumberSeveral senior aides to Mayor Adams were searched as part of a corruption investigation surrounding his 2021 election campaign, in which he was accused of conspiring with the Turkish government to receive illegal donations.

As a result, the investigation led to a wave of resignations.

The search came after the FBI searched Adams' home in February as part of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Brooklyn.

Additionally, New York City Superintendent of Education David Banks submitted his resignation earlier this week after federal agents seized his cell phone earlier this month.

Adams countered that he and his aides have not been formally accused of wrongdoing.

“We're constantly hiring new people,” he told reporters at City Hall. The New York Times“So let's not give the impression that all of a sudden, some people are saying, 'I don't want to be involved in city politics.'”

Additionally, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) spoke in defense of Adams on Wednesday morning.

“As far as I know, Mayor Adams is doing the best he can to stay focused on meeting the needs of New York City residents in one of the most difficult jobs in the world,” Jeffries said.
