Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called on New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) to “step down” from his position amid multiple investigations into his administration and its associates.
in post Ocasio-Cortez said on X on X that the “proliferation of resignations and vacancies” in the Adams administration is a threat to the proper functioning of government.
Ocasio-Cortez's posts come as several members of Adams' administration have resigned and are facing federal investigations.
“I do not know how Mayor Adams can continue to govern New York City,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “Surges in resignations and vacancies are threatening to undermine the functioning of City government, and constant investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain competent government staff. For the sake of the city, he should resign.”
Adams statement Responding to Ocasio-Cortez, he told Fox News that he was elected by the people “to fight for the people” and that “no matter what happens, I'm going to stay and I'm going to fight.”
“It is the height of hypocrisy for someone who self-righteously maintains that no one charged with a felony should go to prison to say that New York's second black mayor should resign, based on rumors and innuendo, when not a single person has been charged with a crime,” Adams said in a statement. “I am leading this city to protect it from such sham politics. The people of this city elected me to fight for them, and I intend to stay and fight, no matter what.”
Ocasio-Cortez's comments come after New York City's police commissioner, Edward Cabán, resigned in early September after federal investigators launched an investigation.
As Breitbart News previously reported, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) searched the homes of New York City's First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and New York City's Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks following an investigation into the mayor's “2021 campaign.”
New York City Health Commissioner Ashwini and New York City Education Commissioner David Banks also Resign After the attack, they were removed from that role.
Banks announced his resignation after his mobile phone was confiscated “as part of a bribery investigation involving his brother and his fiancée.” According to of The New York Times.
Other Democrats calling for Adams to resign include New York City Council members. Tiffany & Co. New York City Council Member Emily Gallagher.
