To take on the oligarchy, it seems one must embody its spirit.
New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is often seen as a champion for the working class, and her recent “Battle Origarity” tour with Senator Bernie Sanders reflects that commitment.
Interestingly, AOC’s campaign reported expenses totaling $3,508.92 for a luxury stay at Vdara Hotel & Spa during her March tour, which included some pretty lavish accommodations in Las Vegas.
It’s not entirely clear what kind of services were enjoyed at these upscale locations or how many staff might have assisted in the campaign efforts reported by Washington Examiner.
Earlier this year, Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders kicked off their “Oligarchy of the Battle” tour to galvanize progressive supporters against the Trump administration.
Her Las Vegas expenses coincided with a town hall appearance about 20 minutes away, which featured discussions alongside Rep. Sanders and Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.). The event on March 20 focused on opposing the wealthiest 1%.
“The real division harming our nation is the relentless greed at the top, affecting everyone,” Ocasio-Cortez remarked, receiving supportive cheers from the crowd.
Interestingly, earlier reports showcased Ocasio-Cortez in a first-class cabin on a flight from New York to Las Vegas just before the town hall.
Her campaign has seen some notable spending, including a reported $3,445.59 at Asher Adams, a luxury venue in Salt Lake City known for its scenic views of the Wasatch Mountains.
This expenditure came shortly after an April 13 rally where she and Sanders were present.
A curious $58.54 charge was also documented for a Swanky Hotel in May, although the reason remains unclear.
On the same day as the Asher Adams payment, a $3,165.76 charge was recorded for the Leokent Hotel in Tucson, Arizona, where she and Sanders had campaigned about a month prior during their tour.
Senator Sanders’ campaign filings show he also covered several of the same hotels during this period, yet his expenses were considerably lower, including a $624.28 stay at Leokent on April 10.
In fact, his campaign had more hotel-related entries in its finance records than Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign, with over 216 entries compared to just 16 for her.
Neither Ocasio-Cortez’s nor Sanders’ representatives commented when contacted.
