AOC Slams Eric Adams, Columbia University for NYPD Raid of Campus

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) criticized Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the president of Columbia University.

“If kids get hurt tonight, the mayor and university president will be held responsible,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “Other leaders and schools have found safe ways to de-escalate tensions. This goes against leadership and puts public safety at risk.”

Ocasio-Cortez added that this is a “nightmare in progress.”

“I urge the mayor to change course,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

NYPD officers in riot gear stormed the campus and began removing anti-Israel demonstrators from Hamilton Hall, which protesters had taken over early Tuesday.

Video footage showed anti-Israel protesters breaking the glass doors of Hamilton Hall, an academic building on campus, carrying barricades inside the building and hanging pro-Palestinian banners in the windows.

Hours after the building was occupied, the university announced that access to the campus would be restricted for the remainder of the spring semester and that the students occupying the building would be “expelled.”

Columbia University on Monday gave anti-Israel protesters a 2 p.m. deadline to leave encampments set up on campus.
