AOC wins Democratic primary over former Wall Street banker Marty Dolan

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won the Democratic primary on Tuesday, defeating a conservative-backed opponent.

Members of the far-left “Squad” garnered enough votes to fend off a challenge from political newcomer Marty Dolan, according to the Associated Press, which reported the race’s victory less than 20 minutes after the polls closed at 9 p.m.

The primary election spread beyond the 14th Congressional District’s borders of the Bronx and Queens, largely due to Ocasio-Cortez’s national profile and perhaps because Texas conservative groups had no firm grasp of New York City geography.

The Texas-based Job Creators Network put up billboards in Times Square, far from the district, blasting the left-leaning congresswoman and endorsing Dolan, a former Wall Street financier.

“Hey, AOC!” the sign yelled. “It’s time to pack your bags.”

Back in the Deep Blue District,Ocasio-Cortez, in her third term, is expected to retain her seat in the general election on November 5.
