Far-left New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked her social media followers over the weekend why some people split their ballots and voted against President-elect Donald Trump and the Democratic candidate. We asked both respondents if they chose to vote.
Last week, Ocasio-Cortez won a landslide victory over Republican challenger Tina Forte in her re-election bid for New York's 14th District. Ocasio-Cortez received about 69% of the vote, according to the Associated Press. Despite the Democratic candidate's landslide victory, the 14th District also tilted toward Trump by the largest margin in New York City.
“Trump is real. Harris was grown in a lab. People can see that.”
“If you supported both Trump and me, or voted for Trump and the Democrats, please tell me why,” Ocasio-Cortez asked her 8 million Instagram followers.
The congressman shared some of his unexpected responses, and several common themes emerged. Voters want a replacement candidate, have high praise for Mr. Trump's credibility, and are unimpressed with Vice President Kamala Harris.
One respondent said, “It's really simple…Trump and you care about the working class.”
Another respondent explained that they voted for Trump and Democratic candidates in their remaining votes “to put the brakes on” because they “wanted change.”
Other believers explained that they had lost faith in the candidates of both parties.
“Trump and you both seem real,” one follower wrote.
“I feel like you two are outsiders and less of an ‘establishment’ compared to the rest of Washington, D.C.,” said another.
A third person said that “action and progress” is greater than “stagnation and excuses.”
“You both push boundaries and encourage growth,” the social media user added.
“You focus on real issues that people care about,” another wrote. “In some ways, it’s similar to Trump’s populism.”
One respondent added that they did not vote for Vice President Kamala Harris because Harris did not prioritize economic recovery, adding, “When she spoke… [about] She didn't have a plan. ”
Others agreed with this opinion, saying that Harris was “not chosen by the people,'' “couldn't give interviews,'' and “didn't have a clear policy.''
Another contributor said that while President Trump “says war is bad,” the Democratic Party has become “the party of war.”
In response to Ocasio-Cortez's poll, a senior Democratic aide on Capitol Hill said: new york post“If either party wants to win across the board, they have to find a way to gain credibility.”
“Trump won. Trump is real. Harris was grown in a lab. People can see that,” the source added, pointing out that Democrats often miscommunicated their message with voters. .
“Democrats composed and also conducted Donald Trump's symphony,” the source continued. “All he had to do was take a bow.”
