Apple on Thursday marked the tech giant's 44th anniversary. Initial public offering (IPO) It was just days after the company's market capitalization reached an all-time high, highlighting its growth over the past 40 years.

Shares have since fallen from that peak to just under $248 per share in Thursday trading, but the company's $3.74 trillion market cap remains near its all-time high.
Apple's stock price surge coincides with the 44th anniversary of its IPO, which took place on December 12, 1980. Investors who bought Apple stock at the time (IPO price was $22 per share) held it for 40 years. The value of that investment would have increased significantly.
