Apple Increases Subscription Prices Amid Rising Costs

Apple has raised the prices for Apple Music subscriptions and some Apple One plans due to increasing licensing expenses.

Recently, the tech giant adjusted its pricing across various Apple Music subscription tiers. Personal plans will now cost $11.99 per month, up by $1, and student plans also see an increase to $6.99. The Family Plan’s price is going up by $3, setting the new monthly fee at $19.99.

Moreover, the company has increased pricing on selected Apple One tiers as well. This bundle allows users access to services like Apple TV, Music, iCloud+, Arcade, and Fitness+ simultaneously.

The Family tier for Apple One will see a $2 price hike, bringing the total to $27.95 monthly. This package can be shared among five people and offers up to 200 GB of iCloud storage, although it excludes News+ and Fitness+ offerings. There’s another Apple One option available, featuring the same four services with 50 GB of iCloud storage, which remains priced at $19.95.

For those subscribed to the Premier package—the most comprehensive option that includes all six services and allows for up to 2 terabytes of shared storage—the monthly charge will increase by $2 to $39.95.

These adjustments apply not only in the U.S. but also to customers in other countries. Although Apple did not formally announce these changes, updates were reflected on its website last Friday. The company stated to 9to5Mac that the price hikes are a response to escalating licensing costs for Apple Music, effective immediately.

Additionally, Apple recently faced some scrutiny regarding the ICLOUD+ privacy tool, with a new lawsuit claiming it may inadvertently expose users’ real email addresses when interacting with websites.

In late June, Apple had also raised prices for iPads and MacBooks, citing surging memory chip costs. The MacBook Air price has jumped by $200, now totaling $1,299, while the lower-end Neo model increased from $599 to $699. The MacBook Pro with 1 terabyte of storage is now $1,999, rising by $300, and the iPad Air with 128 GB has gone from $599 to $749.

Apple remarked during its earlier announcement, “We have never seen component prices rise this quickly.” The company indicated they had been attempting to shield consumers from these increases, but felt the need to raise prices on a variety of products at this point.
