One of Apple's most popular devices is now obsolete.
If you own a second-generation Apple Watch Series 2, consider it an antique. The tech giant has scrapped both stainless steel and aluminum devices, officially putting the devices in its own line. List of “obsolete” products.
The $269 device was released in 2016, but current owners of the device have no support from Apple if something goes wrong.
It was a product that attracted great expectations from the time of its debut, with features such as improved waterproofness and built-in GPS.
Apple explained that products are considered obsolete approximately seven years after the company stopped distributing them.
According to the website, “Apple has discontinued all hardware servicing for older products and service providers are unable to order parts for older products.”
However, the more expensive ceramic version of the second-generation Apple Watch Series 2, which retails for $369, is not yet on the list, so Apple will still need to provide service for this product.
Meanwhile, the only Apple Watch product on Apple's “vintage” product list is the second-generation aluminum Apple Watch Series 1 in both sizes. A product is considered vintage when Apple discontinued it more than five years ago but less than seven years ago.
Earlier this year, Apple placed its last models, the iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle, on its discontinued list, as well as the iPhone 6.
iPhone X Max and iPhone 6s Plus were also added to the vintage list.
