Arch Manning Faces Criticism After Struggle Against Kentucky
Arch Manning had a challenging performance in the Texas Longhorns’ victory over the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, drawing some negative attention on social media for not elevating his play.
In last week’s matchup against No. 6 Oklahoma, Manning completed 12 of 27 passes for 132 yards and rushed for negative one yard over 11 attempts. Despite these struggles, Texas clinched a tight 16-13 win with a decisive field goal from Mason Shipley in overtime.
Manning’s statistics this week didn’t win over any fans, and he acknowledged the defense’s role in securing the win. “The defense carried us all night,” he stated. “We’ve got to play better. We’ve got to start faster. It was obviously a tough night for our offense.”
Throughout the game, Texas managed only eight first downs, accumulating 179 total yards over 12 drives, which isn’t great by any measure.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was excited with the outcome, remarking, “What a victory. It’s tough in this league with the SEC on the road at night. Finding a way to win this game was a challenge.”
With this win, Texas improved to 5-2 overall and stands at 2-1 against SEC opponents. They are currently in fifth place in the conference and have a game scheduled next weekend in Mississippi.
