Arch Manning appears to have the foot speed to rival one of the fastest players in football.
Manning replaced an injured Quinn Ewers on Saturday and gave it his all, throwing four touchdowns and scoring on a 67-yard run in a blowout win over Texas.
The latter play saw him show off his leg power, reaching a top speed of 20.7 mph, which caught everyone's attention.
That was faster than the 20.3 mph speed of Tyreek Hill's 80-yard touchdown throw in Week 1 against the Dolphins, according to Reel Analytics and Next Gen Stats.
“The adrenaline makes you go a little faster,” Manning told reporters after the win.
For context, Manning's sprint was more than two miles per hour slower than the 22.7 mph speed of his leading runner last season. Xavier Worthy from Texas.
Manning's scramble may not have broken Hill's NextGenStats NFL record of 23.24 mph. As a rookie with the Chiefs in 2016 (Or the 21+ mph speed he reached multiple times last season.) But Manning impressed last week, throwing for 223 yards passing in a relief role for the Longhorns.
Ewers remains questionable with an oblique injury, so the upcoming game could see him make his first start in a college uniform.
Head Coach Steve Sarkisian was pleased. On his impression the first time he saw Manning in action for an extended period of time.
“There was some learning curve there, some things to learn, but at the end of the day I thought he played at a high level,” Sarkisian told The Athletic this week.
Texas is scheduled to play Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
