Arch Manning’s Mixed Performance in Texas Victory
Fans in Texas certainly made their feelings known during the early stages of Saturday’s game. Arch Manning, despite leading the Longhorns to their 10th consecutive win, faced criticism after not completing a vital third-down pass to wide receiver Ryan Niblett during the second quarter. Ultimately, Texas secured a 27-10 win over Texas El Paso, but it wasn’t without its challenges.
The crowd expressed their displeasure as Manning struggled, particularly highlighted by his interception in the end zone during the second quarter. By halftime, Manning’s stats showed five completions out of 16 passes for only 69 yards.
On a brighter note, Manning did manage to score two rushing touchdowns in the first half, aiming to contribute positively on the ground.
After entering the season with high expectations, Manning’s start has faced scrutiny. His opening game against Ohio State was rocky, where he completed 17 of 17 passes for 170 yards but ultimately lost 14-7.
Reflecting on the defeat to the Buckeyes, Manning acknowledged the need for improvement. “In the end, it’s not enough,” he said. “You don’t want to begin the season at 0-1. They’re a good team, but we’ve made mistakes ourselves. It starts with me. You have to play better to win.”
He did find success in a subsequent game against San Jose State, throwing for 295 yards and four touchdowns in a solid 38-7 victory. Still, one might wonder how much of that performance can be attributed to the level of competition.
Looking ahead, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian credited Manning’s improved play to hard work following the disappointing opener. “Today was a result of the effort put in during the week,” Sarkisian mentioned. “He was focused and understood the game plan. He extended plays and made smart decisions.”
As Manning prepares for the upcoming game against Sam Houston next Saturday night, fans will be watching closely to see if he can build on this recent momentum.
