Arch Manning Faces Fan Frustration After Texas Win
After the Texas Longhorns secured a 27-10 victory over UTEP, quarterback Arch Manning found himself the target of some frustrated fans. Despite the win, Manning’s struggles were evident, and discontent was heard from the crowd during the first half of the game.
Manning completed 11 of 25 passes for 114 yards, along with a touchdown and an interception. He also managed to add 51 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground, but still expressed a need for improvement. “I have to play better,” he told reporters afterward, acknowledging the expectations he faces as a quarterback. “I want a lot of quarterbacks to be great. I know they’re better than this.”
The Longhorns’ offense was somewhat effective, recording 23 first downs. However, they struggled significantly on third down, converting just one of five attempts. They were also one of two on fourth down attempts.
Support for Manning remains among his teammates. Wide receiver Ryan Wingo stood by him, noting, “The Arch is a great quarterback. Our chemistry isn’t diminishing. I think we’re improving just like everyone else in the country, especially in the second half of the game.”
While Manning hasn’t quite met the lofty expectations placed upon him before the season, the Longhorns have managed to secure consecutive wins after a narrow loss to Ohio State.
Looking ahead, Texas is set to face Sam Houston State next weekend.
