Arch Manning has no regrets.
The highly touted prospect has yet to play at the University of Texas, despite the hype and expectations heading into his freshman season.
Manning is currently behind starting QBs sophomore Quinn Ewers and redshirt freshman Malik Murphy, both of whom have started under center this season.
Peyton and Eli Manning’s 18-year-old star nephew wouldn’t have changed a thing about his decision, according to his grandfather Archie.
“Arch is happy with his decision.” Archie Manning told The Span.. “All the reports we’re getting are that he’s doing well. He’s going to redshirt this year, and I think that’s important.”
In a redshirt year, the younger Manning would not lose a year of eligibility and would be a redshirt freshman instead of a sophomore next season.
Because of the hype, some Texas fans and the college football world expected Manning to really start his career.
The news that Arch has no regrets should, in theory, encourage Texas fans who were worried about the possibility of him moving to where he would start next season.
“Every situation is different,” Archie said. “As you may remember, Peyton and Eli went to school early for spring training. Peyton was thrown into his first game as a freshman. He played great that season. had a great offensive line and two really good running backs, so he was able to work on it.
“Eli took what I thought was the best course. He redshirted his first year, was a backup his second year and started his third year. I think that’s a huge leap forward. I played 2A football, as did Peyton and Eli. Each situation is different.”
Texas is ranked No. 7 in the nation with an 8-1 record and a win would qualify for the College Football Playoff.
