Arch Manning Prepares for Upcoming Season After Challenging Year
Last season, Texas quarterback Arch Manning faced quite a bit of scrutiny as he stepped into a starting role in Austin.
However, head coach Steve Sarkisian feels that the challenges Manning encountered have laid a solid groundwork for the 2026 season.
“What he experienced would probably have overwhelmed 99 percent of individuals in his situation,” Sarkisian remarked on Thursday during SEC Media Day. “He’s evolved into a multifaceted player because of what he learned last year, and he has a strong supporting cast. I believe he’s geared up for an impressive season ahead.”
Manning underwent foot surgery over the winter months, and once cleared for action this spring, he diversified his skills by playing both running back and receiver.
He’s been focusing on improving his short-yardage performance, candidly acknowledging that it “wasn’t very good” when a statistic showing a 56.3 passing percentage for throws between zero and ten yards came to light.
After a rough beginning to the season, Manning found his footing during the latter part of the 2025 season, recording 14 touchdown passes and just two interceptions in his final six games.
What really helped him, he shared, was maintaining perspective throughout the ups and downs.
“I was upset with myself,” Manning reflected on Thursday. “I kept thinking, ‘Why isn’t this going well? It shouldn’t be this hard. I’m letting myself down, the team, and even the fans.’ It was tough, for sure, but honestly, I knew the only path was to keep working hard and aim to improve. I had faith I would come out on the other side—it just took a bit of time.”
As the season approaches, Manning is set to remain in the public eye, and the 22-year-old appears prepared for what lies ahead.
He’ll kick off his season on September 5 against Texas State.
