Arch Manning Officially Named Starting Quarterback for Texas Longhorns
Arch Manning attracted significant attention during the SEC Media Days last season, but this Tuesday marked a new chapter as he has officially been named the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. It’s a role he seems eager to embrace.
Manning, who is linked to Super Bowl champions Peyton and Eli Manning as well as the legendary Arch Manning of the New Orleans Saints, shared that he never considered transferring from Texas. He stated, “I think the main thing was I wanted to be at the University of Texas. Whether it’s the school itself, Austin, my friends, my soccer program, I wasn’t anywhere. So, I’m continuing to get better with football and it was easy for me to stay, just like I am.”
When Quinn Ewers decided to return for the 2024 college football season rather than enter the NFL Draft, many assumed Manning might seek a starting position elsewhere. However, he opted to remain and served as a backup to Ewers, stepping in for ten games during the season due to injuries among teammates.
During that time, Manning threw for 939 yards, achieving nine touchdowns and two interceptions, while completing 67.8% of his passes. He also displayed his athleticism, rushing for 108 yards on 25 carries and scoring four touchdowns.
Now, with a clear path ahead, Manning is set to showcase his skills consistently under the leadership of head coach Steve Sarkisian. And, honestly, it feels like the time has come for him to shine.
The hype surrounding Manning isn’t entirely new. He’s been a standout since his time at Isidor Newman School and has faced the weight of family legacy and national expectations. Recently, Peyton Manning reflected on his nephew’s journey in an interview, emphasizing that while he and Eli are available as resources, Arch is determined to carve out his own identity. “Cooper has done a great job with Arch,” Peyton noted, acknowledging his brother’s support. “They’re handling everything that comes their way quite well.” He expressed excitement about seeing Arch on the field, appreciating his patience and dedication over the past two years.
Peyton also highlighted the importance of consistency in coaching, reflecting on the challenges in college and the NFL when faced with frequent coordinator changes. “I believe in mastering the system you’re in,” he remarked. “I’m looking forward to seeing him play.” Manning’s work ethic and supportive nature as a teammate have not gone unnoticed, making many eager to witness his upcoming performances in Austin.
