Arch Manning speaks candidly about disappointing Week 1 loss for Texas

Arch Manning’s Tough Start for Texas Against Ohio State

Arch Manning’s debut performance this past week wasn’t the most exciting, to say the least.

In a challenging game for Texas against Ohio State, he completed a total of 170 passing yards, including a 17-yard touchdown, but also threw an interception. Unfortunately, the Longhorns fell short, losing 14-7 in what turned out to be a defensive struggle.

After the game, Manning, 21, expressed his disappointment. “In the end, it’s just not enough,” he told reporters. “We definitely don’t want to kick off the season at 0-1. Sure, they’re a solid team, but we contributed to our own mistakes. It really starts with me. I need to play better to help us win.”

Manning has generated considerable attention this season, especially since stepping in for Dolphins rookie Quinn Ewors.

Despite the underwhelming showing, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian stood by Manning, emphasizing that there’s plenty of time left in the season. “The expectations are a bit out of hand externally, but let’s not jump to conclusions just yet,” he remarked post-game. “This is only one chapter in a long story.”

Sarkisian also mentioned Manning’s struggles with Ohio’s defensive strategy. “He was a bit lost on some plays early on,” Sarkisian noted. “Their secondary is intelligent and well-coached, which made things tough for him.” He added that Manning seemed to find his rhythm in the second half.

Looking ahead, Manning’s next opportunity to make an impact will come on September 6 against San Jose State, a team that is generally considered less formidable than the Buckeyes.
