Texas Longhorns vs. UTSA: Game Recap

Arch Manning provided an early boost for the top-ranked Texas Longhorns on Saturday night in Austin, throwing two touchdown passes in their 30-6 victory over UTSA. However, Manning had a tough game overall, ending with 164 passing yards on 17 completions out of 33 attempts. He faced several punishing hits from the UTSA defense before exiting the game in the fourth quarter.

With this win, Texas improved to 3-0, but the competition is about to get fiercer. Next week, they’ll be diving into Southeastern Conference play.

Upcoming Challenges

The Longhorns are set to travel to Knoxville to take on the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers, who recently overwhelmed Kennesaw State with a 42-9 victory. That should be an interesting matchup.

On the offensive side, wide receiver Cam Coleman had a strong showing, scoring his first touchdown after a Texas interception on the very first play of the game. He added a spectacular second touchdown later, catching the ball in the end zone, helping Texas pull ahead 17-3 in the second quarter.

Gianni Spetic contributed significantly with three field goals, and the Longhorns carried a 23-6 lead into the fourth. Freshman Derrick Cooper even got in on the action, scoring his first career touchdown with under nine minutes remaining.

Despite the initial success, Manning struggled to maintain his momentum after a strong start. He missed some open targets and overthrew others, taking some heavy hits during scrambles, including one instance where his helmet was knocked off in a hard collision.

Meanwhile, the Texas defense continued to show dominance, building off their powerful second half against Ohio State. They only allowed UTSA to manage 143 total yards and kept them from scoring a single touchdown.

Next Saturday, UTSA will host Colorado State. It’ll be interesting to see how both teams perform moving forward.
