Archaeology Offers ‘Tsunami of Evidence’ of the Bible

Professor Tom Meyer of Shasta Bible College, also known as the “Memorist of the Bible,” recently wrote a book explaining how archaeological discoveries can further strengthen the validity of the Bible.

“We don’t need archeology to prove the Bible is true,” Meyer recently told CBN News. “The Bible stands on its own. It is fully authoritative in every respect.”

He explained that Christians are often challenged when it comes to evangelism and sharing the faith, especially when speaking to those who argue that the Bible has no authority. “You know what it’s like when you’re sharing your faith or when you’re sharing the gospel,” Meyer said. “If you were to say to someone, ‘You need to believe the Bible because it says it’s true,’ you’re going to get some pushback.”

Meyer believes it’s good to know the “various dialectics” that lead to the Gospel, noting that archeology “continues to uncover new information from the pages of the Bible.”

“Biblical archeology has given us a tidal wave of evidence that we already knew: that all these people existed,” he said. “But we have evidence of their names. …I think it’s somewhere between 50 and 100 people. [who are] We have discovered the exact names of those men mentioned in the Bible – King David, the prophet Isaiah, King Hezekiah, etc. – and their archaeological remains. This…shows the reliability and accuracy of the Bible. ”

He also described specific finds related to King David and his kingdom, adding that until 1994, there was no clear extra-biblical evidence of King David.

“In 1994…we discovered the name of King David on a monument at the gates of Tel Dan, in the North Pole of Israel,” Meyer said. “Since then, we’ve been getting information bit by bit about King David’s kingdom and so on.”

In 2023, new discoveries were made about several forts built by King David. “When we dug in Jerusalem, we found a huge moat,” he said. “A moat from the time of David, a defensive fortress in the city of Jerusalem.”
