Architecture film sparks new call to list Southbank Centre | Southbank Centre

The South Bank Center was once selected as the most GLI building in the UK, but was interested in architecture following the success of the brutal movie, urging new calls to list it.

For 34 years, successive governments have resisted the proposal to list the center. This is a set of concrete buildings such as Hayard Gallery, Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall.

The 20th -century society (C20S), which conducts campaigns for modern design, was called again to list three buildings. The call took place on Wednesday, when the immunity from listing will expire.

The owner of the building calls this immunity for another five years. The C20 recommends that it refuses, and eventually a grade II*is given to the center. The association claims that there is support for government heritage institutions, but historical England states that the list of views is confidential.

Historical England (formerly English heritage) recommends listing the Southbank Center five times, which was rejected by successive cultural secretaries.

If the South Bank Center is listed, it will end one of the longest architectural stand -off between athleticist and authorities.

Catherine Kroft, the director of the C20s, states: A movie with the same name. “

This week, three and a half hours of films are one of Oscar's favorite, named London's Best Picture of Circle Awards.

Croft himself hated movies. At last month, she told the Guardian architectural critic Oliver Wainlight, “It's just a tosh.” However, she is enthusiastic about the brutal building, especially the South Bank Center.

CROFT states: “This is a building that encourages the response” I can't believe it is not listed. ” It is an internationally recognized brutal masterpiece, has been loved by enthusiasts for a long time, and is now increasingly understood and respected by more ordinary people. “

Hayward gallery, Purcell Room, and Queen Elizabeth Hall were designed by the former London County Architecture Division, led by Norman Ingulback, and opened the late Queen.

Their intentional coarse concrete surface has changed significantly and changes in style from the sophisticated surface of classical modernism. When the center was completed in 1967, Daily Mail readers voted for the most GLI building in the UK.

Since the listing was first proposed in 1991, several plans have been proposed to redevelop the South Bank Center. But everything was failed.

Other modernists and brutal buildings in South Bank, London, including the Royal Festival Hall with Grade I Status in 1988 and the Royalnatal Theater in Glade II*in 1994. 。

The Southbank Center list requires approval of culture, media and sports departments. CROFT states:

She added as follows. “I am convinced that recent restoration has revitalized the interior that appeals to the heart, and that future programming and maintenance will not hinder. Furthermore, complicated all the specified standards are satisfied. The fame and perception of our brutal heritage are more positive and encouraged to reuse other outstanding examples.

A historic England spokesman said, “The recommended listing recommendations are confidential until DCMS makes a decision.”
