Alaska Airlines’ acquisition of Hawaiian Air has been one of the juicy topics in the points and miles sewing circles last year or so. Previously unremarkable Hawaiian Miles have been converted into objects of desire and intrigue based on their new 1:1 transferability to the Alaska Mileage Plan Miles.
Hawaiian is the transfer partner for American Express membership rewards, effectively means that Alaska is also the transfer partner. Transfer AmexPoints to Hawaiian and convert them to Alaska Miles on a 1:1 basis.
This has provided an unprecedented opportunity for rare Alaskan customers to stockpile mileage plan miles, but it also raises a very common question: When will the transfer from AMEX to Hawaiian disappear?
Alaska has set a target date for its debut by combining the “Summer 2025” Alaska/Hawaii Loyalty Program. So I thought that was when Amex forwarding generally stopped.
A few weeks ago, Frequently mirror insider moderator Zed I saw it as of July 1st, 2025 Virgin Australia is no longer a partner for Hawaiian Air. today, Monkimir I realized that the final day of all non-Alaska airline partnerships with Hawaii is 6/30/25. Additionally, some shopping and dining partners will finish on the same day.
Given that all that, it seems like a fair speculation to say that this is the last day when transfers to Hawaii will also be possible.
A simple idea
To be 100% clear, this is pure speculation for now. I’ve heard nothing concrete from Alaska, Hawaiian or the American Express. That said, we were waiting for signs when the final hammer would fall. The announcement of the same endings of all these Hawaiian airlines and shopping partners seems to be pretty good speculation.
Frankly, if you have membership rewards and want to transfer them to Hawaiian/Alaska, I’ll do it faster than slowing it down… There’s no guarantee that the ability to do so will be there next week. Tea leaves are used until June 30th, but there is absolutely no reason to wait until the very end.
