Hello, good evening, welcome We’re broadcasting live the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa America 2024, with favourites Argentina facing Ecuador. It seems like a foregone conclusion, but so are thousands of other shocking results that dot the history of football, from the match against Belo Horizonte in 1950 to the match against Brazil in 1960. Manizales 2001.that’s why we come back again and again.
Rob will be here very soon, in the meantime, here are our power rankings for the tournament so far:
1) Argentina
Argentina won all three of their group stage matches to top Group A, beating Canada, Chile and Peru.
The team won with Lionel Messi on the field, but the team was so dominant that Messi was unable to play in the final group game due to injury. Messi returned to the team. Complete training It seems likely they’ll play in the quarterfinals, and if they don’t, they could do a lot worse than slipping Alejandro Garnacho onto their team.
Lautaro Martinez has been in good form in Messi’s absence. After starting the tournament on the reserve bench, Martinez has risen to the starting line-up and has scored four goals in three games, two of which have come off the bench.
Argentina’s midfield is dropping its line, ready to beat opponents. And to put it on the opposition. “What I do is pick my opponents,” midfield coach Rodrigo de Paul told Telemundo. “Well, rivals would be a good idea. I want to be in a fight where I have to be on my guard. I don’t just want to win. I want to beat my opponents. I do it on a personal level.”
Good luck to Argentina’s opponents in the knockout stages, they will need it.
2) Colombia
Colombia is unbeaten in 26 games. They haven’t lost since February 2022. That’s objectively insane.
Admittedly, failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup was a bit of a damper on the start of this incredible run, but 18 months on from the World Cup, Colombia look to be a real threat to extend their unbeaten run all the way to the final.
Colombia topped Group D, defeating Paraguay and Costa Rica before drawing in the deciding match against Brazil, and despite conceding a spectacular free-kick goal, they fought back to earn a point and stay in the lead, setting up a tough quarter-final match against Panama.
