Argentina’s Javier Milei Blasts Lula in Pre-Brazil Trip Rant

Argentine President Javier Milley on Tuesday posted a lengthy diatribe on social media against unnamed “total stupid dinosaurs,” in which he again called Brazilian President Lula da Silva a “communist” and “corrupt.”

Lula, a staunch socialist who has maintained close ties with the world’s remaining communist countries, was convicted of multiple corruption offenses during his first two terms as president, including misusing public funds to buy luxury beachfront property. Milley has repeatedly cited these as reasons to distance himself from the government, and Lula has demanded an apology, which has yet to be offered.

Millay’s controversial comments come just days before his first visit to Brazil as Argentina’s president, where the liberal populist is expected to attend the Brazilian equivalent of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and potentially meet with Lula’s predecessor, conservative former president Jair Bolsonaro, but he has made it clear he has no plans to meet Lula.

Milley captioned the post on social media site Twitter as “The Perfect Stupid Dinosaur,” but some Heading In this particular exchange, Milley did not directly call Lula a “stupid dinosaur,” and the post did not clarify whether Milley was referring to anyone in particular with his insult, or whether he was arguing with a fictitious leftist.

The post began by condemning people who were upset that Millay had questioned the legitimacy of a bizarre incident in Bolivia last week in which military officers seized control of an area outside the presidential palace. Socialist President Luis Arce described the incident as a failed “coup,” but many in Bolivia, including former Socialist President Evo Morales, question whether the incident was an actual threat to Arce’s government.

“The fraud perpetrated in Bolivia is public knowledge and, rather than admit his mistake, this complete fool criticizes me for exposing his stupidity,” Milley wrote.

As for Lula, Milley criticized the “idiots” who complained about accurately describing him as a “communist.”

“After Lula’s attacks (especially his strong interference in the election campaign and his strong support for the dirtiest election campaign in history), [the idiot] “They complained because I told them the truth (he was in prison for corruption and was a Communist),” Millay wrote.

“If this stupid dinosaur had done what he told LLA [Milei’s political party, Liberty Advances] “They would have lost,” Millay concluded. “They are part of Argentina’s failure.”

Millay’s Interrogation The situation in Bolivia prompted the already hostile Bolivian government to summon the Argentine ambassador in protest, while Foreign Minister Diana Mondino had expressed concerns about the country’s stability before Millay’s comments.

Millay’s visit has been closely watched in Brazil, where he appears to have chosen to attend CPAC over a meeting of Mercosur, the regional trade bloc that Lula is expected to attend. Mercosur is made up of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. Anonymous sources told local Argentine media that Lula’s attendance at the Mercosur summit was the “fundamental factor” behind Millay’s choice not to attend.

As Milley had hinted, Lula was openly opposed to running for president in 2023. stated He said Millay’s victory in the neighbouring country “could mean a setback of more than 40 years in Latin America” and likely a setback for socialist progress in the region, describing him as “worse than Bolsonaro”.

Milley himself has accused Lula of secretly supporting the election campaign of his rival, former Economy Minister Sérgio Massa.

“They are [the Massa campaign] “With the help of Lula, I have contracted a group of Brazilians dedicated to running an all-day negative campaign to smear me,” Millay said. Said Peruvian novelist and journalist Jaime Bayly was interviewed in November. In the same interview, Millay again called Lula a “communist” and “corrupt” and insisted he would not meet with the Brazilian president.

Millay similarly compared Lula to other communist and authoritarian leaders in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson in September, suggesting he would not maintain ties with the president.

“Not only do I not do business with China, I do not do business with any communists,” Milley told Carlson. “I am a champion of freedom, peace and democracy. There is no place for communists in China. There is no place for Chinese people in China.” [Russian strongman Vladimir] There is no place for Putin there. Let’s take a closer look. [socialist Brazilian President] Lula [da Silva] There is no place for it there.”

Lula, both personally and through his representatives, has repeatedly demanded an apology from Millay, most recently telling Brazilian media outlet UOL in June that he would continue to ask for an apology before speaking with the Argentine president.

“I didn’t speak to the Argentine president because I thought he should apologize to Brazil and to me. He said a lot of nonsense. I just want him to apologize,” Lula said. Said“I love Argentina. It’s a country I love very much. Argentina is a very important country for Brazil and Brazil is very important for Argentina.”

Manuel Adorni, spokesman for President Milley, said: Responded In an interview, he asserted that Millay “said nothing for which to apologize.”
