Ari Emanuel Backs Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger

Ari Emanuel, executive chairman of William Morris Endeavor (WME), has voiced his support for the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. In a recent editorial, he suggested that the antitrust lawsuit initiated by state attorneys general is misguided.

Emanuel remarked, “When government officials manipulate markets to achieve political outcomes, antitrust laws stop protecting competition and start threatening it.” He believes the Attorney General should abandon the case and focus on upholding existing laws. Emanuel emphasized that Hollywood creators should revert to their usual fierce competition at the box office, streaming platforms, and beyond.

Furthermore, he contended that the landscape of antitrust litigation is out of touch with the real-world competition posed by companies like Amazon, Netflix, and Apple. He stated, “Attorney Generals cannot afford to ignore platforms that compete for viewers, talent, funding, and content daily, just because it complicates their cases.” Emanuel expressed that every decision regarding budgets and release dates is influenced by the broader competitive dynamics.

As reported by Breitbart News, following a recent judicial injunction, Paramount has paused the merger until all ongoing legal matters are resolved.

A federal judge has suggested that the $81 billion merger be temporarily halted for at least two weeks due to ongoing activist lawsuits. Currently, Paramount’s agreement is on hold until after June 1, 2027, or until the litigation concludes.

The primary hurdle appears to be a lawsuit led by California’s Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta, who is at the helm of a coalition of 12 states seeking to block the merger. Other states involved include Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Washington.

Additionally, Emanuel’s sports and entertainment company, TKO, reportedly secured $7 billion from Ellison’s Paramount to exclusively broadcast UFC fights.
