Ariana Grande reflects on ‘transformative’ and ‘challenging’ year after divorce

Ariana Grande is trying to put her fears from 2023 behind her.

In a recent Instagram Story, the “Thank U, Next” singer reflected on a “difficult” year that included rumors of divorce and cheating.

“It's been one of the most transformative, most challenging, yet happiest and most special years of my life,” she shared on her Instagram Story. “There were so many beautiful but polarizing emotions. I have never felt so at the mercy and accepted of what life is crying out to me. I have never felt so fulfilled in my work. , I never felt present in my work. All the time.”

The past year has been full of ups and downs for Grande, including starting filming on the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked and divorcing her husband of two years, Dalton Gomez.

Shortly after announcing their divorce in September, there were rumors that she was dating Ethan Slater, her Wicked co-star and star of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical. started flying around. A source told People magazine that the pair had been living apart since the beginning of the year, but first came to the public's attention in July when Grande appeared at Wimbeldon without her ring. That was when it was witnessed.

Along with rumors that Grande and Slater were dating, speculation surfaced that they started dating while the two were still together. At the time, Slater was still married to Lily Jay, with whom he had a son. Slater filed for divorce in July.

“I have never felt so much pride, so much joy, so much love, and yet so deeply misunderstood by people who don’t know me, piecing together whispers and their assumptions about me and my life. I've never felt like I was alone,” Grande wrote. “I learned how much one of these things is more important than the other.”

Grande said that by going through difficult times, she learned who was truly there for her. I never felt like I was there,” he said. She works on “protecting yourself by only responding to what is worthy of your energy and excluding what is not.”

Overall, Grande says she's learned a lot over the past year, not only from media speculation, but also from “all the brilliant, beautiful souls” who have been “privileged to create art.”

“I am forever grateful for all the emotions I have been lucky enough to feel so deeply this year. Galinda and I are alike,” Grande wrote. “Through immeasurably painful times and unexplainably happy times. I feel more human than ever. I feel deeper than ever. I feel both softer and stronger.”

She concluded her message by wishing her followers a Happy New Year, reminding them that if they “sometimes feel misunderstood or feeling alone,” that “it will pass,” and saying that they are “incredibly loved.” He urged them to know what was being done.

In addition to Slater, Grande also stars in Wicked alongside Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Bowen Yang.
