Ariana Grande Remembers Mac Miller’s Impact on Her Music
Ariana Grande recently shared her thoughts on how Mac Miller, who passed away seven years ago, shaped her musical journey.
During a live masterclass at Chapman University in California, she expressed her gratitude for the influence of her late ex-boyfriend. She mentioned that he encouraged her to take risks and explore R&B-influenced pop music.
Grande revealed that Miller’s support motivated her to seek his collaboration on her song “The Way,” saying it felt like thanking him for helping her discover her sound.
The two artists collaborated again in 2016, working together on a remix of Miller’s “My Favorite Part” and Grande’s own “Into You.”
Their relationship officially started in 2016 and lasted for about two years until their breakup in May 2018.
Sadly, Miller died from an accidental overdose just four months later, on September 7, 2018. He was just 26 years old.
Grande paid tribute to him on Instagram at the time, reflecting on their bond since she was 19. She expressed disbelief at his absence and shared her deep sadness, stating, “You’ve been my best friend for so long.”
She also conveyed her feelings of frustration and helplessness, wishing she could ease his pain. “The sweetest, kindest soul with demons he never deserved,” she wrote, adding that she hoped he found peace.
Over the years, Grande has continued to honor Miller’s memory—celebrating his birthday and even getting a tattoo inspired by her dog’s name. His influence remains evident in her music, particularly in her hit “Thank U, Next.”
