The husband of a newlywed couple who were hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver on their wedding night will receive $1.3 million in damages in a settlement approved this week, according to reports.
Aric Hutchinson is reportedly set to receive $863,300, minus attorney fees and legal costs, from three bars near Charleston, South Carolina, Progressive Auto Insurance Company and Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the death of his wife, Samantha Miller.
Hutchinson sued the companies, alleging that Jamie Lee Komoroski, 26, crashed her Enterprise rental car into a golf cart carrying Miller, 34, and Hutchinson, 36, while driving home from their beachside wedding reception, which was scheduled for April 2023.
In his wrongful death lawsuit, Hutchinson accused the bar of over-serving Komorowski with alcohol.
Investigators said Komoroski was driving while drunk and going 65 mph in a 25 mph speed zone when his Toyota Camry crashed into the rear of a golf cart.
Komoroski was charged with four felonies, including manslaughter.
She has been released on bail and faces up to 25 years in prison.
