Arizona’s DeeJay Dallas races 96 yards into NFL history

The first Sunday of the 2024 NFL season gave football fans the opportunity to get a full look at the league's new “Dynamic Kickoff” rule.

And finally, the first truly dynamic play under these rules came to fruition, resulting in the first kickoff return touchdown of the 2024 NFL season.

Buffalo Bills 31-20 lead Arizona CardinalsThe teams lined up for the next play under the NFL's new kickoff format, and Buffalo kicker Tyler Bass lofted the kick to Arizona's four-yard line within the “landing zone,” a feature of the league's new kickoff rules.

Arizona returner DeeJay Dallas settled for Bass' kick, and 96 yards later, Dallas went down in the NFL record books as the first returner to score a touchdown on a kickback under the new rules.

The highlight of the return came at the Arizona 40-yard line, when Dallas weaved through three Buffalo players and rose to his feet while charging into Buffalo territory. From there, it was a foot race that Dallas won.

It's even in the NFL record books.
