Arkansas Razorbacks Make Coaching Changes After Heavy Loss

On Sunday, the Arkansas Razorbacks parted ways with football coach Sam Pittman and appointed Bobby Petrino as the interim head coach. This decision followed a disheartening 56-13 defeat to Notre Dame, during which the Razorbacks struggled significantly, allowing 42 points in the first half. Quarterback CJ Carr threw four touchdown passes, and Jeremiah Love added two rushing scores, making it a tough outing for Arkansas.

This loss marked a tough turn for the Razorbacks, now holding a 2-3 record for the season. It seems to have been the final straw for the university regarding Pittman’s tenure.

Athletics manager Hunter Yuracheck expressed gratitude for Pittman’s dedication to the team and the university. He emphasized the need for change to enhance the program and better position student-athletes for success. The aim, he mentioned, is to be highly competitive within the Southeastern Conference and to contend for national championships. As they search for the next head coach, Yuracheck is optimistic about securing the necessary resources for the program to thrive.

Pittman, who took over as head coach in 2020, recorded a 32-24 record, leading the Razorbacks to three bowl games, including a win in the Liberty Bowl last season.

Bobby Petrino is no stranger to the Arkansas program; he previously coached the team from 2008 to 2011 but was dismissed ahead of the 2012 season following a controversial motorcycle incident that affected the program’s reputation.

With a coaching change underway and a challenging season ahead, the Razorbacks are looking to regroup and refocus on their competitive aspirations.
