Election Integrity Rankings Released
The Heritage Foundation unveiled its yearly election consistency scorecard, highlighting states with strong election integrity. Arkansas topped the list, moving up from No. 8, under the leadership of GOP Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
The rankings are based on various factors, including voter ID laws, accuracy in voter registration, absentee ballot management, citizenship verification, and more. In a press release, Sanders celebrated several legislative accomplishments, including Laws 240, 241, and 218. The state emphasized that it is enhancing protections for its voting process to thwart bad actors from influencing constitutional changes.
Moreover, Sanders has enacted laws preventing foreign entities from contributing to state and local initiatives. “My goal for this session was simple: it’s easy to vote and difficult to cheat,” she stated. She expressed pride in working alongside Secretary of State Cole Jester to ensure Arkansas has the safest ballot process in the nation and to combat petition fraud.
Jester echoed her sentiments, asserting that the state is set on becoming the safest place for elections in the U.S.
Jason Snead, the executive director of the Honest Election Project, remarked that Sanders and Arkansas deserve substantial recognition for their commitment to election integrity. He encouraged other states to adopt similar reforms that Arkansas has implemented.
Interestingly, all states in the top ten rankings were Republican-led, with Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Oklahoma following Arkansas. At the other end of the spectrum, states like Oregon, Vermont, California, and Hawaii occupied the lowest positions.
Earlier this year, the Honest Election Project released a guide outlining necessary reforms for ensuring election integrity, emphasizing measures like voter ID requirements, cleaning up voter rolls, and barring foreign influence.
