Arkansas police chief fired, arrested for kidnapping

The police chief in Eudora, Arkansas, has been arrested and charged with kidnapping.

The latest felony kidnapping case stems from the actions of Police Chief Michael Pitts in October 2023, the Arkansas State Police said in a statement.

“Chief Pitts denies the charges and we intend to vigorously defend the case,” the chief’s attorney, Russell Wood, told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Arkansas murder suspect who escaped from prison through a hole in the ceiling was arrested days after his fellow fugitives were arrested.

Wood said Pitts was fired earlier this week, adding that he intends to plead not guilty to the charges.

State police said Pitts, 45, was dispatched to a gas station in Eudora on a report of a man causing a disturbance. Investigators determined Pitts illegally restrained John Hill Jr., police said. State police said Pitts took Hill to a secluded area in Chicot County, where he assaulted her and left her stranded.

Hill told investigators that while they were on their way to the remote location, the chief told them he was “going to beat his butt.”

“Upon arriving at County Road 86, Mr. Hill was forcibly removed from his patrol by Chief Pitts and brutally assaulted him, causing severe injuries to his face and head,” an Arkansas State Police special agent said in court. I am claiming that.” Affidavit.
