Conflict Between Barmore and Vrabel After Jets Game
A tense moment arose between Christian Barmore and Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, following what Barmore deemed “dirty” play by Jets right tackle Armando Menbou after their recent game.
“What occurred was that No. 70 engaged in some unsportsmanlike behavior behind my back, which was really unfortunate,” Barmore mentioned. “We all want to talk, but he’s not on this field. I’m just saying, brother. If they want to act tough, they should do it in the locker room… The play was over. I heard the whistle. Then, he came up behind me and literally pushed his whole body against my back.”
In a crucial play just before halftime, after Brady Cook handed off the ball to Isiah Davis to run down the clock, Menbou continued to block Barmore and ended up on top of him as Davis advanced.
So when Vrabel approached Barmore, the two engaged in an animated discussion for several seconds as the Patriots headed to their locker room at MetLife Stadium.
Barmore recalled that in his first season under Vrabel’s coaching, the coach advised him to “focus on the game.” According to reports, Vrabel commented on the confrontation, “I reminded everyone to stay calm. We have a game identity. We want to avoid giving away free yards. That was the point. Just a reminder, really.”
Menbou, the Jets’ first-round pick from this April’s draft, chose not to address the incident afterward.
At that point, the Jets were already trailing 35-3 and spent much of the second half on the bench after a tough outing against Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
The offensive strategies of Cook, Menbou, and the entire team struggled to score, culminating in a 42-10 defeat. A matchup against the Bills in Week 18 will close out a disappointing season for the Jets, who failed to secure a playoff spot.
On the other hand, the Patriots celebrated their revival from last season, achieving their 13th victory and clinching the AFC East title, particularly after Buffalo’s loss to the Eagles that same night.
