A gang of knife-wielding robbers is causing fear in Queens this summer as they steal mopeds. Police shared images of the suspects on Tuesday.
In six different incidents, these three criminals have threatened their victims before escaping on mopeds, according to the officers.
Farid Ahmed, 31, reported that he was waiting at a red light on his moped at 106th Street and Liberty Avenue when two men approached him.
“They just came up, showed me a big knife, and told me to hand everything over,” Ahmed recounted.
He said he got off his scooter, and they took his moped, Samsung phone, and AirPods.
Since that robbery on July 3rd, Ahmed mentioned that he hasn’t purchased a new scooter.
“I’m scared,” he shared. “I don’t want to get a new scooter because I feel like it could happen again.”
In another incident just a few days ago, a 29-year-old man was riding his moped towards 107th Avenue when he was attacked. A robber struck him on the head with a chain and threatened him with a knife. He received minor injuries but was treated at the scene, police noted.
On July 20, a 22-year-old man had his moped stolen while it was parked at 101st and Drew Street, where one robber used a knife and two people participated in the theft.
Hours later, a 28-year-old man on his moped at 122nd Street and Liberty Avenue was grabbed by three assailants, who then fled with his vehicle.
On August 7, a 55-year-old man was robbed at Rockaway Boulevard and 103rd Avenue, where a suspect removed the key from his moped and pushed him off before escaping with the scooter.
That same day, two suspects threatened yet another victim with a knife while stealing a moped on Linden Boulevard.
Police have released photos of the suspects dressed in casual attire, with one seen on a moped.
