An armed intruder broke into a Florida home just after midnight Sunday, but the homeowner's adult son also had a gun and shot and killed the intruder.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said At 12:23 a.m., officers received a report of an armed home robbery in the 3000 block of Double D Ranch Trail in Ruskin. Ruskin is located on the shores of Tampa Bay, about 30 minutes south of the city of Tampa.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the suspect dead from multiple gunshot wounds, the sheriff's office said.
A police investigation revealed that the homeowner's adult son shot the suspect who entered the home, the sheriff's office said, adding that the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

of tampa bay timesDeputies identified the suspect in the break-in as 46-year-old Tony Say. The Times reported, citing deputies, that Say was in possession of a handgun.
“Imagine the horror of waking up in the middle of the night to a stranger breaking into your home,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This is every homeowner's biggest fear. It shows a dangerous and brazen individual breaking in and showing a complete disregard for the safety and security of others. Our thoughts are with this Our thoughts are with this family as they recover from the trauma of what happened.”
The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing and that any updates will be released by the public information office.
