An Oklahoma teenager has been appointed honorary lieutenant governor. protection A suspected intruder stormed into his home with a gun.
Bryan County Sheriff Johnny Christian praised the courage and bravery shown by 17-year-old Colton Parker during the May 21 incident at a home in Bochtito.
“Colton demonstrated extraordinary courage and composure in the face of this horrific situation.”
Parker was awakened by the sound of her dog barking and found a man, later identified as 57-year-old Brandon Lee Leslie, armed with a knife, trying to break into her home.
Parker managed to take his father’s gun and force him out of the house. Leslie then allegedly drove his car into the house, attempting to run over the teenager. He then backed up and drove off. The teenager tried to chase after him but noticed the tires on his father’s truck had been slashed.
Investigators said they later found Leslie during the second burglary and arrested him as he was trying to flee.
The man was charged with attempted first-degree burglary, assault with a dangerous weapon and aggravated damage to property, as well as second-degree burglary in a separate incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Colton’s actions are an inspiration to us all and a shining example of the true meaning of courage.”
The sheriff commended Parker for obtaining valuable information that helped police identify and arrest Leslie.
“In the face of this terrifying situation, Colton demonstrated extraordinary courage and composure and took decisive action to protect himself and others.” He wrote The citation reads, “We commend with great honor and respect Mr. Colton Parker, a Bryan County citizen and a courageous and resourceful young man who displayed extraordinary courage and coolness in the face of extraordinary danger.”
The sheriff said his quick thinking saved his life and prevented harm to his family and property.
“His bravery in the face of such a dangerous threat is a testament to his strong character and unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of those around him,” the citation continued. “Therefore, on behalf of the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, we proudly present Colton Parker with this Sheriff’s Commendation in recognition of his extraordinary courage, selflessness and heroism against adversity. Colton’s actions are an inspiration to us all and a shining example of the true meaning of courage.”
